*** Morcheeba, “Big Calm,” China/Sire. For its second album of piquant sonic cocktails, the British trio refines its brew of trip-hop, pop, blues, country, soul and jazz. Skye Edwards’ vocals are effortlessly hypnotic, suspended seductively above brothers Ross and Paul Godfrey’s relaxed grooves. While many of these 12 fetching sound-scapes recall contemporaries from the Verve to Garbage to Beck, Morcheeba’s down-to-earth vibe makes it more than the sum of others’ parts. The group will be at the El Rey Theatre on April 17.
