Event Sponsor Again Seeks City’s Support

Moorpark resident Scott Green has requested that the City Council reconsider today whether it will co-sponsor the first Moorpark Fourth of July High Street Event.
The event, which Green and another Moorpark resident are organizing, calls for activities and booths on High Street, including a barbecue, pony rides, a talent show, a small carnival and food booths from local restaurants. The event also includes a 1K/3K/5K run or walk around Moorpark College.
Council members have declined to co-sponsor the event in past discussions, mainly because of exposure to liability.
“It will give the event more credibility and a higher profile,” Green said.
He also views the event as a boon to High Street, which the city is trying to revitalize.
“It will help reinvigorate the downtown merchants on High Street,” said Green, who plans to operate a law firm out of a High Street office soon.
So far, local business have contributed $4,000 of the $8,000 needed for the event, Green said.
