Boyadjieff New Chairman of Varco International

* George Boyadjieff has been elected chairman of Varco International Inc., an Orange-based designer and manufacturer of drilling equipment and machinery and rig instrumentation for oil and gas well drilling. He succeeds W.B. Reinhold, who is retiring. Boyadjieff will remain president and chief executive, a position he has held since 1991. Reinhold has been chairman since 1976, and was chief executive from 1970 until 1991.
* Scott A. Reinert has been named president of Irvine Apartment Management Co., a joint venture created by Irvine Apartment Communities (IAC) in Newport Beach and Western National Property Management to oversee property management for the majority of IAC’s residential rental portfolio. Reinert had been vice president of asset management for Irvine Apartment Communities since 1994. In addition, Rudy A. Svrcek has been appointed senior vice president of corporate marketing for Irvine Apartment Communities. He had been senior vice president of residential sales for Irvine Community Development Co., a subsidiary of the Irvine Co.
* Dianna G. Munro has been named to the newly created position of vice president, strategic marketing for Ingram Micro Inc., a Santa Ana wholesale distributor of technology products and services. She most recently served as vice president, marketing and market development for Moore North America Business Systems in Lake Forest, Ill. She was also with Xerox Corp. for more than 20 years.
* Harriet Porter has been appointed director of group sales for the Westin South Coast Plaza hotel in Costa Mesa. She was formerly sales manager with the Sutton Place Hotel in Newport Beach and held positions in sales and catering with Sheraton Hotels in Long Beach and Anaheim.
* Josie Harloe has joined Panel Concepts Inc., a Santa Ana manufacturer of open office systems, as manufacturing engineering manager. She was previously manufacturing engineering manager for Holga, a manufacturer of metal case goods and storage systems. Both Holga and Panel Concepts are owned by Hon Industries Inc.
* Peter Stranger has been elected to the board of directors of Bristol Retail Solutions Inc. in Newport Beach, a provider of retail automation products and services. He is president of J. Walter Thompson advertising, Los Angeles. Prior to joining J. Walter Thompson, he was managing partner at Bozell Worldwide in Costa Mesa.
* Patrick A. Long has been elected a director of the Defense Research Institute, an association of civil litigation defense lawyers. He is senior partner with the law firm of Long & Williamson, P.C. in Santa Ana.
* Michael F. McGrath has been appointed director of internal audit for Apria Healthcare Group Inc., a Costa Mesa health-care company. He joined the company in 1996 and most recently held the position of manager of internal audit.
* Kendra Lohr has been named branch manager for the Irvine office of Robert Half International Inc. She joined the staffing services firm in 1994.
* Allen H. Gharapetian has been appointed product and marketing manager, consumer products division, for Yamaha Corp. of America in Buena Park. Before joining Yamaha, he was vice president of marketing for Logicode Technology Inc.
* Ted Smith will head Event Management Group, a new division of Koppes & Partners Advertising in Irvine. Smith was formerly the senior vice president and director of marketing for Shearson American Express. In addition, John R. Miles was named director of marketing for the division, which will develop and manage sporting events, corporate meetings and fund-raisers.
* Carl Bauchle has been appointed president of SMS Settlement Services Inc., a subsidiary of First American Financial Corp. in Santa Ana. SMS is a provider of software and related services to the title and escrow industries. Bauchle succeeds Robert W. Carlile, who was named chief executive and will be responsible for software development.
* Greg Wisner has joined Fluidmaster Inc., an Anaheim manufacturer of toilet repair products, as marketing manager. He was previously account supervisor for Bozell Worldwide.
* Connie Walker has been appointed chief financial officer for E.T.C. Carpet Mills Ltd. in Santa Ana. Walker has been with the company 22 years, serving in numerous positions, including cost accounting manager and production planning manager.
* Robert A. Dollar has joined HNTB Architecture in Irvine as national director of hospitality architecture. He was previously with Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo.
* Rene Matz has been named special events coordinator for the Orangewood Children’s Foundation in Garden Grove. She was formerly a campaign account manager with United Way in Orange County.
* Veronica M. Soptich has been appointed to the newly created position of general manager of R.E. Lee Intermediaries in Newport Beach. She has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, and was previously with Marsh & McLennan, Southeastern Aviation, New Hampshire Insurance Co. and Johnson & Higgins.
* Terence Mullin has been named vice president of marketing and business development for the Advanced Technology division of Clarion Corp. of America in Irvine. He has overseen overall product marketing since November. Before that, Mullin was vice president of marketing and business development for NetSoft/NetManage. In addition, Alonzo Cardenas was appointed vice president of engineering. He also joined the company in November after being with GVC/BCM Advanced Research.
* Joe Canon has been named director of interactive media for Hawkins Advertising’s new Interactive Services division. He joined the Newport Beach agency a year ago as graphic designer.
