What Did You Have for Dinner Last Night?

Eve Babitz, author of “Black Swan,” “Eve’s Hollywood,” “Slow Days, Fast Nights” and other books about Southland life:
“Oh, I went to Koo Koo Roo, actually. Let’s see: I had macaroni and cheese. And watermelon, and a vegetable. String beans, I think.
“Usually I get the chicken there, but the macaroni is so good. I see all the men getting it--I’m the only girl who gets it. Once I bought a half a quart and took it home and put Crystal hot sauce on it and just ate the whole thing.
“The other place I go a lot is Joseph’s at Ivar and Yucca. They have the best calamari, sauteed with tons of garlic. The place is just filled with punk rockers and film stars and people who don’t mind smelling like garlic. I saw Ben Apted in there.”
