Hurlbut Quits as Triton Boys’ Volleyball Coach

Mike Hurlbut, who resigned as girls’ volleyball coach at Dana Hills High in June, also resigned recently as boys’ volleyball coach at San Clemente High to pursue a career in professional golf long-drive contests, San Clemente Athletic Director Rob O’Rear said.
Hurlbut, 33, who teaches history at San Clemente, won his second event as a pro July 4 at NorthWood Golf Center in Irvine. Hurlbut’s winning drive was measured at 359 yards 2 feet 8 inches and earned him $1,000.

UC Irvine’s Nicole Bucciarelli was named the Big West Conference’s soccer player of the week.
Bucciarelli, a senior striker, scored the tying goal in the 60th minute against San Diego State Sunday. The Anteaters tied the tenth-ranked Aztecs, 1-1.
Bucciarelli, who has 13 goals this season, has scored in four consecutive games.
