‘Camelot,’ ‘Mama Flora’s Family,’ ‘Exiled’ Top Lineup of Movies

It’s another big movie weekend on television with the premieres of a new version of “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court,” a four-hour drama from the pen of the late Alex Haley and a thriller using characters from NBC’s “Law & Order.”

The new adaptation of Mark Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” stars Whoopi Goldberg as a computer researcher whose experiment lands her back in the days of King Arthur. The movie is called “A Knight in Camelot” and will be televised on the “Wonderful World of Disney” Sunday at 7 p.m. on ABC.

Cicely Tyson, Blair Underwood, Queen Latifah and Mario Van Peebles star in “Mama Flora’s Family,” Sunday at 9 p.m. on CBS. The four-hour drama, based on Haley’s mother, deals with a half century in the life of a black matriarch and her family. The conclusion is Tuesday at 9 p.m.

Chris Noth returns as his “Law & Order” character, Det. Mike Logan, in the NBC police drama “Exiled,” Sunday at 9 p.m. Several “L&O;” series regulars appear in the mystery including Jerry Orbach, Benjamin Bratt, S. Epatha Merkerson and Sam Waterston.

Kate Mulgrew and Corbin Bernsen star in the UPN drama “Riddler’s Moon,” tonight at 8. The film deals with the disabled son of an Indiana farmer who gets telepathic guidance on how to stop a draught.

Martin Sheen plays an immortal called the Soul Hunter in the “Babylon 5” movie “River of Souls,” Sunday at 8 and 10 p.m. on TNT.

John Slattery, Stephan Mailer and James Frain star in “Red Meat,” a study of a sexual relationship, Friday at 9 p.m. on the Sundance Channel.

Cheryl Ladd and Michael York star in the Fox Family Channel suspense film “Perfect Little Angels,” Sunday at 8 p.m.

Kiefer Sutherland, Skeet Ulrich and Georgina Cates star in a Vietnam War drama, “A Soldier’s Sweetheart,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on Showtime.

Shelley Long guests as a mystery novelist with writer’s block on CBS’ “Diagnosis Murder,” tonight at 9. Adam West also appears.

A&E; presents a two-part “Dalziel and Pascoe” mystery, Friday at 6 and 10 p.m. It deals with murder, betrayal and a birthmark. The conclusion airs Nov. 13.

Hugh Hefner plays himself on CBS’ “Buddy Faro,” Friday at 9 p.m.

Fox Family Channel premieres a new series, “Great Pretenders,” Saturday at 11 a.m., which features young performers who lip-sync to their favorite artists. The female vocal trio Wild Orchid and disc jockey Cornelius Edwards are co-hosts.

CBS unveils a new animated adventure about the heroes of Greek mythology, “Mythic Warriors: Guardians of the Legend,” Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on KCBS.

Michelle Rene Thomas headlines “Little Men,” a new series based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic, Saturday at 8 p.m. on Pax TV.

TBS’ “National Geographic Explorer” finds host Boyd Matson traveling to Alaska to talk with women who have carved out interesting lives on “Wild Women of Alaska,” Sunday at 6 p.m.

Kim Basinger, Alec Baldwin, Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer guest as themselves on Fox’s “The Simpsons,” Sunday at 8 p.m.

E! Entertainment Television’s “The E! True Hollywood Story” offers a profile of Jessica Hahn, Sunday at 8 p.m.

The truth is back! “The X-Files” finally returns for its sixth season--and its first produced episode in Los Angeles--Sunday at 9 p.m. on Fox. In the season opener, Mulder and Scully’s ability to pursue the X-Files and their partnership is threatened by the hunt for a creature in the Arizona desert.

The Cartoon Network spotlights its original cartoon shorts during “Cartoon Cartoon Weekend,” a 52-hour marathon starting Friday at 5 p.m. and continuing until Sunday at 9 p.m. The marathon will introduce two new toons, “Kenny and the Chimp” and “Mike, Lu & Og.”

“Joni Mitchell: Painting With Words and Music,” Friday at 9 p.m. on pay-per-view, features the singer performing songs from her new “Taming the Tiger” album, plus her classic tunes in concert.

A&E;’s “City Confidential,” Saturday at 3 p.m., looks at the unseemly side of American cities.

The Learning Channel’s “Mega-Tech,” Sunday at 5 and 8 p.m., is a three-hour chronicle of extraordinary feats of engineering.

The History Channel documentary “Coming Home: The Veteran Experience in America,” Sunday at 6 and 10 p.m., examines what happened when soldiers returned home from major conflicts, beginning with the Revolutionary War and concluding with the Gulf War.
