Gore Unveils Math Program in L.A. Visit

Vice President Al Gore is swamped by students at Dana Middle School in Hawthorne on Thursday. During a one-day visit to the Southland, he stopped at the school to unveil a new math program called “America Counts,” aimed at helping children master the fundamentals of algebra and geometry by the eighth grade. Also on Thursday, the vice president announced that California will receive more than $568 million this year in Head Start funds, an increase of more than $40 million over last year.
