Aliso Niguel Earns No. 1 Spot in PCL

Quarterback Rich Hada returned a fumble recovery and a punt for touchdowns to lead Aliso Niguel to a 27-18 victory over Costa Mesa in a Pacific Coast League game Friday night.

Tackle Tim Hefty had 10 tackles and four sacks for Aliso Niguel, which finished atop the league standings with University at 5-5, 4-1).

The Wolverines defeated the Trojans, 20-9, two weeks ago and will be the league’s top-seeded team in the Division VI playoffs.

Costa Mesa (6-4, 3-2) will receive the league’s third-place berth in the playoffs.

In another Pacific Coast League game:

University 31, Laguna Beach 7--University quarterback Andy Dennis passed five times for 129 yards and Daniel Tadych rushed for 135 yards.

The victory gave the Trojans (6-3-1, 4-1) a share of the league title with Aliso Niguel, their first since sharing the 1974 South Coast League championship with El Toro.

Laguna Beach ended the season 3-7, 2-3.
