NATO Expels Deputy Premier of Serbia

North Atlantic Treaty Organization forces expelled a top Serbian politician opposed to ethnic coexistence for making statements detrimental to the peace process in Bosnia, the alliance said. In a related development, a new conflict emerged over who should serve as the prime minister of the Bosnian Serb government, with the new ultranationalist president naming a like-minded premier. Both conflicts emerged after Nikola Poplasen, the recently elected president of the Bosnian Serb-run half of Bosnia, celebrated his inauguration. Invited to the festivities Friday was Vojislav Seselj, a radical nationalist and deputy premier of Serbia, the dominant republic of neighboring Yugoslavia. NATO, however, went to the party and told Seselj to leave. Later, Poplasen proposed fellow ultranationalist Dragan Kalinic as new Bosnian Serb premier, replacing Milorad Dodik, the moderate now holding the post.
