State Won’t Fight Man’s Right to Die

The state of Virginia declined to try to stop the wife of a comatose man from removing the feeding tube that keeps him alive. The decision allowed the family of Hugh Finn to have the tube that has sustained him with food and water for 3 1/2 years removed in the Manassas, Va., nursing home where he has been since February 1996. Doctors said the former Louisville, Ky., television news anchor would likely die within weeks. Finn ruptured his aorta in a traffic accident in March 1995. Michele Finn told the family that her husband had said he would not wish to live in such a condition.
