Calabasas Doubles Team Does Enough to Trip Agoura

Calabasas High defeated Agoura in a nonleague girls’ match Tuesday when the No. 3 doubles team of Jacqueline Yano and Marrissa Kagen managed to win at least one game against Agoura’s No. 1 team of Alexis Bell and Lauren Hahn.

The teams tied, 9-9, but Calabasas (7-0) won more games, 75-71. The victory by Yano and Kagen proved critical.

Agoura fell to 5-3.

In other matches:

Burroughs 14, Canyon 4--Dragana Ognenovska swept at No. 1 singles and teammates Michelle Hilareth and Melissa Hooven did the same at No. 1 doubles to pace the Indians (7-2, 2-1) to a Foothill League victory over the Cowboys (5-4, 0-3) at Burroughs.

Van Nuys 7, Poly 0--Tinna Chung and Lisa Elkan each won their singles matches by scores of 8-0 in the Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Poly.

It was the third match in a row in which Van Nuys (3-1) has won 7-0.

Hart 11, Valencia 7--Sophomores Jenny Munroe and Christina Cancio improved to 9-0 and 8-1, respectively, in Foothill League play by each sweeping three singles sets.

The Indians (6-2, 3-0) moved into sole possession of first place.

Munroe and Cancio are 13-0 in league and 16-6 overall.

Campbell Hall 15, Whitney 3--No. 1 singles player Melissa Nguyen and the No. 1 doubles team of Emily Abrams and Stephanie Carapetian improved to a combined 47-1 with impressive sweeps for the Vikings (7-1, 1-1) in a Delphic League victory at Valley College.

Nguyen lost just one game in three sets to improve to 24-0, and Abrams-Carapetian dropped only three games and are 23-1.

Camarillo 18, Oxnard 0--Camarillo (4-4, 1-0) lost only one game at singles in a Pacific View League opener at Oxnard (2-5, 0-1).

Lauren Gaona and Erin Jones each swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the Scorpions.

Camarillo’s No. 1 doubles team of Annie Doud and Jenny Underwood also did not lose a game.

St. Bonaventure 13, Bishop Diego 5--Breanne Henkelman of St. Bonaventure (5-4, 2-1) did not lose a game at No. 1 singles.

Alyssa Halcomb, the Seraphs’ No. 2 player, also swept the Cardinals’ singles trio, and Catherine McVerry won two of her three matches at No. 3 singles.
