A woman driving her children to Newport Beach Elementary School hit and slightly injured a crossing guard Wednesday morning, Newport Beach police said.
Donald Charles Wilson, 38, was struck as he stepped off the curb at West Balboa Boulevard and 14th Street, holding out his stop sign to help children crossing from the other side of the street, police said.
A 36-year-old Newport Beach woman driving east in the right lane of Balboa Boulevard about 8:15 a.m. didn’t see Wilson “until the last second,” she told police.
Her car bumped the crossing guard, who suffered bruises to his back and hip, police said. The woman was not cited at the scene. The case is under investigation.
