The Manhattan Beach Education Foundation raised more than $545,000 for local schools, a 36% increase over the amount raised by the foundation last year, officials announced Monday.
“This is the most money we’ve gotten so far,” said spokeswoman Christie Mavredakis.
The money will finance programs in art, music, computers and science at seven Manhattan Beach schools, she said. The grants were awarded based on district requests.
The school organization was started eight years ago by a group of parents to support programs that had suffered state funding cuts, Mavredakis said.
The group raised the money through private donations and fund-raising events.
