Most of Park to Be Closed During Renovation

The northern portion of popular Palisades Park will be fenced off for several months beginning this week so that construction can begin on several structural and aesthetic improvements there, officials said.
Most of park north of Arizona Avenue will be closed while new drainage and irrigation systems, pathways, benches and restrooms are completed, said Judith Meister, the city’s beach manager.
The $7-million Beach Improvement Group project also includes refurbishment and redesign of the area south of the Santa Monica Pier. In October, work will begin on new paving and seating along Ocean Front Walk, an expanded Chess Park, a fitness and play area for children, new restrooms and other features.
Meister said she hopes both the Palisades Park and beach work will be completed by next summer.
Primary funding for the project came from voter-approved bond measures for parks improvements, Meister said.
