1 Slaying Suspect to Stand Trial as Juvenile

SYLMAR — One of six teens charged in a May slaying outside a million-dollar Encino home should be tried in Juvenile Court, a judge ruled Monday.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Morton Rochman also ruled that one of the boy’s alleged accomplices, Peter Makhdomian, should be tried in adult court, authorities said.
Three other young men accused in the killing of Abtin Tangestanifar outside a birthday party had been previously ordered to stand trial as adults. Two of the cases were dismissed on a motion from the district attorney’s office, citing insufficient evidence.
Prosecutors said they will appeal Monday’s decision to keep one of the youths in Juvenile Court because they feel he was just as involved as the others.
They also are seeking to have a sixth defendant tried as an adult, but have yet to hold a hearing in his case.
