Kirsten Roy
Women’s Soccer
Goalkeeper Kirsten Roy was named Big West Conference player of the week after she shut out Fresno State and Air Force in 1-0 victories. Roy, a sophomore from Aliso Niguel High School, has not given up a goal in the last three games. She had six shutouts a year ago, when she played all but 89 minutes during the season.
UPCOMING GAMES
Cross-country: Christy Villa finished third in the UCI/Asics Invitational last weekend. Arizona’s Amy Skieresz won the race. The Anteater women’s team competes in the Aztec Invitational Saturday in San Diego’s Balboa Park.
Men’s soccer: The Anteaters are second among Mountain Pacific Sports Federation teams in points with 21. UCLA leads the conference. Irvine (3-1) hosts Redlands at 7 p.m. Wednesday and plays at Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Women’s soccer: The Anteaters, ranked seventh in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America, play at Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. Friday and host Pepperdine at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Golf: Irvine opens its fall season with the William H. Tucker Invitational Friday and Saturday in Albuquerque.
Women’s volleyball: Setter Teri Zartman was named to the all-tournament team at the Pepperdine Classic last weekend. Irvine (2-5) plays at Loyola Marymount at 7 tonight and in the San Jose tournament Friday and Saturday.
Water polo: The Anteaters (0-1) play in the Southern California tournament at Newport Harbor on Sunday.
