Two bandits carjacked a catering truck Thursday, tying up the driver and a passenger before fleeing with cash and other property, according to Huntington Beach police.
An armed man stormed the truck about 5 p.m. at Delaware Street and Garfield Avenue, Police Lt. Luis Ochoa said. The robber forced the 35-year-old male driver to drive toward Holly and Clay streets, where an accomplice waited. The two robbers used duct tape to bind the driver and a 20-year-old female passenger.
The robbers ransacked the truck, taking a cellular phone and cash and threatening to kill the victims before they fled on foot, Ochoa said. The victims, who were not injured, freed themselves and called police.
Police described the robbers as Latino, 20 to 30 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, each with a thin build and dark hair. One wore a yellow hard hat.
