A 47-year-old woman working in a market in an unincorporated area east of Inglewood was shot to death Friday by a teenager after he asked her the price of beer, authorities said.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that after the victim answered the youth’s question, he walked to the door and then suddenly turned, firing a single shot with a handgun.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was struck in the upper body. She was pronounced dead at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center at 4:43 p.m.
The killer, described as about 18, took nothing from the J and R Market at 10117 Normandie Ave. He fled south on Normandie, driving a black car.
The sheriff’s spokesman said detectives are reviewing the store’s surveillance tapes.
