San Diegan Trains Now Stop in Goleta
Starting this weekend, Amtrak’s San Diegan trains added a new stop: Goleta, just north of Santa Barbara. The newly built platform at La Patera Lane, between Hollister Avenue and U.S. Highway 101, is about 1 1/2 miles from UC Santa Barbara.
The platform, which is not staffed, includes free parking and bike racks. There is a bus stop nearby, at Hollister and La Patera, that provides service to the campus and downtown.
Goleta is the third platform that Amtrak has opened since summer 1997 in Santa Barbara County, after Carpinteria and Guadalupe. Three of the four daily San Diegan trains now end in Goleta rather than Santa Barbara; the fourth ends in San Luis Obispo, as before.
One-way coach fares from Union Station in Los Angeles to Goleta start at $16; Custom Class starts at $27. Information: telephone (800) USA-RAIL.
