Organizers have scheduled a dinner-dance Saturday in Oxnard to raise money for La Colonia youth.
El Centrito De La Colonia will host its annual fund-raising event in celebration of National Latino Heritage Month. The dinner-dance will feature TV news anchor Jesus Javier from KMEX-TV as master of ceremonies.
Proceeds will go toward El Centrito’s computer lab, which focuses on English literacy development and educational enrichment.
Organizers hope young people will take advantage of the educational and career opportunities to become productive members of the community, said Luann Rocha, executive director of El Centrito.
“We accomplish this mission through directed educational, recreational, cultural and counseling programs for our youth and their families,” Rocha said.
Saturday’s benefit begins at 6 p.m. at the Marriott Residence Inn, 2101 Vineyard Avenue, Oxnard. Tickets are $50. Call 483-8685 for reservations.
