George Garcia’s three-yard touchdown run with 2:06 to play gave College of the Canyons a 50-46 victory Saturday night in its first home game in 17 years.
Canyons (2-1), which trailed, 38-21, in the second quarter, scored 21 fourth-quarter points.
Kevin Carrasco completed 18 of 31 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns for Canyons.
Carrasco connected with Tim Feirfeil on a 50-yard touchdown pass play in the third quarter to cut Compton’s lead to 38-29.
With six minutes to play, Carrasco hit Mark Hamilton with an 18-yard touchdown pass to pull the Cougars to within 46-43.
Compton (0-2) scored first on a freak play. Punter Nate Turner, pressured into scrambling from the end zone, completed a short desperation pass to Vincent Starks, who ran untouched for a 90-yard touchdown. A two-point conversion pass gave Compton an 8-0 lead.
