SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

State Sen. Bill Morrow (R-Oceanside) and Assemblywoman Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) will present Mission San Juan Capistrano officials with a $1-million check today for preservation of the Great Stone Church. The funding is part of the new state budget signed by Gov. Gray Davis in June. About $2 million has been raised and spent on internal structural support for the church--reduced to ruins by a massive earthquake in 1812--but an estimated $2.6 million is needed to complete work on the sanctuary dome, the sacristy and another dome. The event begins at 10 a.m. at the mission, 31522 Camino Capistrano. Information: (949) 248-2048.
