Twenty-seven local businesses and organizations are encouraging summer reading by donating incentive prizes for Fullerton Public Library’s reading program, “Long Ago and Far Away.” Children earn prizes for the amount of time they spend reading. After reaching the initial goal of 2 1/2 hours, children get one “dragon dollar,” which can be saved or spent to “buy” prizes. The more time spent reading, the more dragon dollars earned.
Readers can win anything from foreign coins to food coupons to comic books. The free program, open to all independent readers, runs through Sept. 4. Further information can be obtained by calling the Children’s Library at the Main Library, (714) 738-6339, or the Hunt Branch, (714) 738-3122.
