Hines Horticulture Profit Up $8.8 Million

Hines Horticulture Inc., Irvine-based operator of commercial nurseries, reported second-quarter net income of $19.3 million, or 88 cents a share. A year ago, the company earned $10.5 million, or 77 cents a share, which included a charge of $1.4 million from early retirement of debt.
Sales increased 11% to $128 million. Hines said sales increased in both its nursery and peat moss units.
