Abused Child

* My gut wrenched as I read the article on Melissa, the child who was robbed and abused at childhood (Aug. 1). It upsets me that officials and family members allowed it to happen for so many years. I am both proud and amazed at Melissa’s courage and wish her the best.

I strongly believe that our system of handling child abuse should be more thought out, to allow children like Melissa to grow and remember more positive aspects of childhood.
