Clinton Agrees With Wife’s Assessment

President Clinton “generally agrees” with the views expressed by his wife, Hillary, who linked her husband’s past infidelity to emotional abuse as a child, a White House spokesman said. Mrs. Clinton, in an interview for this week’s first issue of Talk magazine, discussed what she called her husband’s “weaknesses.” White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart told reporters “the president generally agrees with the sentiments that the first lady expressed and with the fact that she did the interview and . . . expressed these views.” Asked if Clinton believed his childhood experiences served as an excuse for his marital infidelity, Lockhart replied: “No. The president believes that he is responsible for his actions.”
