LOS ANGELES — Alejandro N. Mayorkas was confirmed by the U.S. Senate Tuesday to head the federal prosecutor’s office in Los Angeles, the largest U.S. attorney’s office in the country. The 39-year-old Cuban native has been serving in the post since December when then-U.S. Atty. Nora M. Manella was elevated to the federal bench.
“I am honored to have been confirmed by the Senate,” Mayorkas said. “I look forward to continue to serve the people of the Central District of California.”
Mayorkas oversees 265 lawyers who prosecute criminal and civil cases in a seven-county region that runs from Orange to San Luis Obispo counties. The Senate approved his nomination on a voice vote.
