Moorpark College received a $150,000 donation from a local businessman and announced Wednesday that its new science building will bear his name.
Fred Kavli, chief executive officer of Kavlico Corp., donated the money to the Moorpark College Foundation to provide scholarships in science, mathematics and computer studies.
The Fred Kavli Science Center will be dedicated Aug. 13 and opened to students Aug. 16.
Last summer, Kavli donated $2.5 million to Alliance for the Arts, a booster organization for the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. In return, the city named the plaza’s main theater after him.
