Councilman Gene Wisner announced at Tuesday’s City Council meeting that he would resign in September after 13 years of service. “I’ve had three strokes and open heart surgery in the last seven or eight years,” Wisner told his colleagues. “The first meeting in September will be my last.” Wisner has served four terms on the council and was instrumental in getting funding for the Imperial Highway improvements.
The council must decide within 30 days of Wisner’s resignation whether to appoint someone to his position or hold a special election, Assistant City Manager David Gruchow said.
