Hobbled Kent Goes on the DL

Associated Press

Second baseman Jeff Kent, who started only one of the San Francisco Giants’ last nine games because of inflammation in his left foot, was put on the 15-day disabled list.

Kent flew back to San Francisco and was examined by foot specialist Dr. Larry Oloff, who placed the foot in a weight-bearing cast.

Kent is hitting .292 with 13 home runs and 64 RBIs.

Stottlemyre threw four shutout innings in Tucson for the Diamondbacks’ team in the Arizona Rookie League. He gave up three hits, struck out five and walked one. Of his 58 pitches, 48 were strikes.

“My arm feels great,” he said.

Stottlemyre, injured while pitching against the Giants on May 17, refused to undergo surgery because he wanted to try to return this season.
