* Valvina Aviles Blasdell; Ventura Native

Ventura native Valvina Aviles Blasdell died Friday at a local convalescent home after a long illness. She was 89.

Blasdell was born Dec. 20, 1909, in Ventura. She was a sixth-generation Californian and a third-generation Ventura resident.

She attended Hill and Holy Cross schools in Ventura. She was a member of the San Buenaventura Mission and Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Blasdell had worked in the citrus industry and retired from Ventura Costal Lemon Co.

Her family described Blasdell as a loving mother, wife and grandmother.

Blasdell is survived by a daughter, Emily Marquez of Ventura; three sons, Al Aviles of Oakview and Ralph Aviles and Gene Aviles, both of Ventura; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. There will be a funeral Mass on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. at San Buenaventura Mission in Ventura, with burial afterward at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
