L.A. Generates Its Own Kind of Magic
Eric Pape’s “Five Degrees of Exile” (July 11) was refreshing. Los Angeles is, to me, the very essence of compassion, duty, style and beauty--throughout the world a symbol of selfless humanity and a standard-bearer for the rights of the downtrodden.
It’s a very American city that transcends nationality, a city with a natural nobility that is classless, one that has proven in recent years that it needs no regal title to continue generating its particular brand of magic.
We should toast Los Angeles for the way it brightens the lives of many exiled leaders and political activists.
