The fifth annual Outdoor Professional Painting Competition begins Aug. 16 at Mission San Juan Capistrano. During the weeklong event, sponsored by Joan Irvine Smith Fine Arts and the California Art Club, professional artists work on-site at the mission creating impressionist paintings with prizes awarded Aug. 21. The paintings will go on sale later that day through 4:30 p.m. Aug. 22. The mission is at 31522 Camino Capistrano. Information: (949) 248-2048.
