WESTLAKE — A clerk at a gas station convenience store was killed early Monday during an apparent robbery, Los Angeles police said.
Mohammed Abdul Khaled, 26, of Los Angeles, was working alone at an Arco AM-PM mini-mart on the 600 block of South Catalina Street when someone entered the store about 1:20 a.m. and shot him once in the torso, authorities said.
He died at the scene.
Det. Ysaias Valdez said it appeared that Khaled, an immigrant from Bangladesh, struggled with what is believed to have been one attacker. The cash register was empty when police arrived, though the amount taken had not been determined.
A customer who walked into the store some time after the shooting discovered Khaled’s body on the floor, Valdez said.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police at (213) 485-4061.
