It’s been a busy year for Al Pacino. He recently completed a successful run of the Eugene O’Neill play “Hughie” at the Mark Taper Forum and he stars in two high-profile films coming out later in the year--Oliver Stone’s “Any Given Sunday” and Michael Mann’s “The Insider.” Check out some of Pacino’s earlier work at the New Beverly Cinema: In Sidney Lumet’s 1975 “Dog Day Afternoon,” Pacino plays a Brooklyn man who finds himself at the center of a media circus when his attempt to rob a bank (to pay for his male lover’s sex-change operation) blows up in his face. In “Scarface,” Brian De Palma’s 1983 update of the 1932 gangster classic, Pacino plays the title role, a Miami-based drug lord. Incidentally, Stone wrote the screenplay for the 1983 “Scarface.”
