A 28-year-old man was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of possessing heroin for sale, police said.
Richard Valdez of Santa Paula, who had two outstanding felony warrants, was spotted about 7:30 a.m. by Santa Paula police driving in the 600 block of East Main Street, Sgt. Ish Cordero said.
Valdez had previously been charged with theft and being under the influence of a controlled substance and didn’t make a scheduled court appearance.
After being stopped by police, Valdez fled on foot, Cordero said. While running, Valdez allegedly threw away plastic bags filled with heroin.
Authorities said they confiscated half an ounce of heroin with an estimated street value of $1,000.
Valdez was being held Ventura County Jail in lieu of $80,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Ventura County Municipal Court, a jail clerk said.
