Buena Park Team Wins Softball Title

Lauren Lappin of Loara High and Jenn McCard of Kennedy each drove in two runs, helping the Buena Park-based California Cruisers win the ASA girls’ 16-and-under fastpitch softball national championship with a 6-0 victory Sunday over Panthers Gold of Sylmar in Marietta, Ga.
Chezare Sievers of Aliso Niguel had two hits and scored twice for the Cruisers, who went 9-0 in the six-day, 92-team tournament, outscoring opponents, 41-5.
Earlier Sunday, McCard singled in the winning run in a 2-1 victory over the West Bay Nuggets of San Francisco in the semifinals.
