COMPTON — Without explanation, city officials have abruptly placed the police chief and a captain of the department on administrative leave.
Chief Hourie Taylor and Capt. Percy Perrodin, each with more than 30 years in the department, were told they were under investigation by an outside agency and were placed on paid leave Monday night, Perrodin said.
City Manager John Johnson and Mayor Omar Bradley did not return phone calls seeking comment.
Frank Wheaton, a city spokesman, said: “The city is taking a no comments posture.”
Wheaton said he did not know who was conducting the reported investigation, nor what it was about.
Perrodin said two police officers and a sergeant arrived at his home at 1 a.m. on Tuesday to notify him of the city’s decision. He said no one has explained why he was being investigated.
“I was astonished,” he said. “I didn’t do anything illegal, or in violation of any policy or ordinance. I just don’t have a clue.”
Taylor could not be reached for comment.
