Students returning to Yorba Linda Middle School next month will be able to cross Casa Loma Avenue and Christie Drive safely with the help of a crossing guard.
The City Council on Tuesday voted 4 to 1 to place a crosswalk and a crossing guard at the intersection on a trial basis. The request for a crosswalk at that location had previously been denied twice by the Traffic Commission and once by the City Council.
A city survey showed that only 22 students crossed Casa Loma Avenue between 7 and 9 a.m.--not enough to warrant a crossing guard, said Bernie Dennis, the city’s traffic engineer. But city officials said those numbers were not accurate.
