Sen. Thompson Joins McCain Campaign

Republican Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee, who had been backing Lamar Alexander for president, said in Kansas City, Mo., that he will serve as co-chairman for the GOP presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Alexander, a former Tennessee governor, dropped out of the presidential race Monday after faring poorly in the Iowa straw poll last weekend. McCain did not participate in the straw poll. McCain addressed the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ annual convention in Kansas City.
