At its last meeting, the City Council approved a request by the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts to create a memorial to be placed in Santa Fe Depot Park honoring the city’s veterans. “It’s a logical spot because of the importance of the railroad in World War I and World War II,” said Mayor Joanne Coontz, because the depot was used for the departure and arrival of troops.
The number of local veterans is estimated at more than 15,000, according to John Whiteriver, chairman of the Veterans Memorial Fund, which is trying to raise $15,000 for the memorial. Information: (714) 538-3085.
