Newt Gingrich

* Re “Gingrich: Do as I Say, Not as I Do,” Column Left, Aug. 17: I am certainly relieved that our newly found moralist Robert Scheer is upset over the revelation that Newt Gingrich wants a divorce and has been foolin’ around, too.
But, then, he should relax. After all, it’s only sex. As for sexual harassment: Shucks, President Clinton took that one off the plate for good. And I’m sure that he really, truly, doesn’t believe that old left-wing conspiracy charge any more than he did the previous right-wing conspiracy charge.
What I don’t understand is why he doesn’t lambaste Marianne Gingrich for not standin’ by her man? Look deeply enough and we’ll probably find out that Newt was actually abused as a child and can’t help himself.

* Bravo, Robert Scheer, for pointing out the shameless hypocrisy of Gingrich in his latest divorce. I suppose Gingrich’s supporters will argue “at least he didn’t lie under oath.” As if that really matters!
What so-called cultural warriors keep failing to remember is this: As disgusted as many Americans (myself included) are with Bill Clinton’s personal behavior we deeply resent the character police who apparently cannot live by the standards they expect the rest of us to live by.

* I’ve always said that Gingrich is twice the man that Clinton is. Bill has cheated on only one wife.
