The city’s Head Start program will no longer serve the community this fall because of a statewide policy to reduce class sizes at public schools.
Orange County Head Start Inc., a nonprofit organization serving low-income families with 3- and 4-year-olds, closed the only preschool for underprivileged children in Yorba Linda in June. Formerly housed in the Mabel Paine Elementary School, it was shut down because of anticipated growth in the school.
“Class-size reduction has affected our facilities--all of them,” said Stella Escario-Doiron, director of facilities and planning for the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District.
