SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
The City Council recently authorized the city manager to formally request permission from the State Water Resources Board to pump 3,325 acre-feet of ground water from the San Juan Basin on an annual basis. The application will be made jointly with the Capistrano Valley Water District.
Since 1964 the district has imported much of its water from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. But as land use has converted from agricultural to residential, water use has been reduced and the district can supply residents adequately from the San Juan Basin. Information: (949) 493-1171.
