Westminster police arrested a Garden Grove man suspected of spousal rape Saturday night after he led them on a chase that ended at the Goldenwest Street exit of the Garden Grove Freeway.
Alexander Navarro, 45, was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting his estranged wife in her Westminster home, police said. She immediately called police to report the 6 p.m. attack, telling police that he was headed to his mother’s home in Garden Grove.
Navarro allegedly made terrorist threats against his estranged wife while he was behind bars at the Orange County Jail this week, police said.
Westminster and Garden Grove police tried to arrest Navarro at his mother’s house, but he fled. It was the second time in a week that police pursued Navarro, said Westminster Police Sgt. Thomas E. Blackburn.
He was arrested a week ago on an outstanding warrant as well as suspicion of malicious mischief after leading police on a chase, Blackburn said.
He was released from jail earlier in the week.
“Now he’s back in custody,” Blackburn said.
