A 14-year-old Long Beach boy playing with friends at Huntington Beach died Friday night after he ran into the path of a car near the entrance to Bolsa Chica State Park.
William Stroud followed three or four friends who darted across Pacific Coast Highway toward the park at 9:44 p.m. Friday. Stroud reportedly stumbled when he crossed the center median, said Huntington Beach Police Lt. Ron Burgess.
“He turned around, as if to see what he had tripped over, and then began running again--without looking for cars,” Burgess said.
The boy was struck by a car driven by Lindsey Hower, 19, of Long Beach.
Police have not charged or cited Hower. Paramedics treated the boy at the scene, then took him to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he later was pronounced dead.
