Racial Harmony

* My first reaction to your Aug. 25 article about Walnut (“Learning to Look Past Race”) was, where have you been? My second reaction was, it’s about time! The fact is, the scenes depicted in the article are far more typical than the reporter implies. The article actually describes the reality that many young people in countless communities throughout Southern California have been living for years.
Unfortunately, The Times’ perverse penchant for playing minor racial incidents into major events and finding a racial slant to every news story have obscured the breakdown in racial barriers that has occurred over the past decade.
