COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT / UCLA : They Might Have Plenty in Reserve
- Share via
The play of projected starter Rusty Williams and backup Travor Turner at one defensive end has Coach Bob Toledo considering that he may not need to move Santi Hall from linebacker to the line after all.
Hall will play behind Asi Faoa at one outside linebacker spot in Saturday’s opener against Boise State, partly as discipline for academic problems that cost him spring practice and partly because Faoa has been playing well. The plan was for Hall to eventually be moved to defensive end after several linebackers return from suspension for the third game, but the preseason showings by Williams and Turner may have offered the Bruins some flexibility.
Toledo probably won’t worry about the decision until seeing how UCLA survives the first two games with its depleted linebacker corps. Even then, the success of Williams and Turner will have an impact on the decision.
“It’s a combination of both,” Toledo said. “If both those guys play well, and if Santi continues to play well, we’ll see.”
