The City Council recently approved $200,000 to pay for their membership in a regional police helicopter unit that was formed in 1993. Santa Ana joined the Airborne Law Enforcement Services (ABLE) program in October 1994 along with Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. Money for the project will come from a federal grant.
