VENTURA COUNTY ROUNDUP : VENTURA : Public Invited to Dedication of School

The Ventura Unified School District invites students, parents and others to attend a grand opening celebration Saturday for Citrus Glen Elementary School.

The event at the new school, located at 9655 Darling Road in Ventura, will begin with a dedication ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The public is then invited to tour the 10-acre campus, visit classrooms and meet Elke Fedde, the school’s principal.

A barbecue lunch, which costs $5 per adult and $3 per child, will be served from noon to 2 p.m. There will also be a bake sale in the cafeteria and a book fair in the library, featuring appearances from Clifford the Big Red Dog and Miss Frizzle, characters from popular children’s books.

According to officials, Citrus Glen is the first new school to be built in the district in more than 30 years. The campus will serve up to 620 students in kindergarten through fifth grades. It is one of two elementary schools planned in Ventura to ease overcrowding.
